The Anoka County fair closed out on Sunday July 29, 2018 with the beloved demolition derby. The derby featured everything from under-21-year-old kids crashing into each other in cars to fully grown men smashing trucks together. Police shot and killed Thurman Blevins on Saturday evening June 23, 2018 in a North Minneapolis neighborhood. Shortly after the incident police taped off the scene and dozens of community members slowly began to gather. Most of them expressed sadness and frustration towards the police and the situation as a whole. James Lark breaks down into tears as he recounts what he saw of the shooting only an hour earlier.

Victor Cajigas, the community liaison for the Iniciativa Comunitaria, checks in on a homeless man living in front of Centro Medico hospital after giving him water and fresh blankets on Saturday March 10. The Iniciativa Comunitaria is a local group of volunteers that formerly traveled internationally to assist victims of natural disasters in South America and elsewhere. After Hurricane Maria made landfall, they turned their attention inwards to helping communities across Puerto Rico. The group provides medical services, emotional support and love to areas that were greatly affected by the storm.
Skye Barker is held by her Aunt Tonda while her mother, Tori Barker, holds a family friend's baby, Bryson at a dinner and Tequilla tasting party. Tori is the granddaughter of the town's founder, Andy Barker and Skye is his great granddaughter. The get together was held in the original home of Andy Barker.
Jackie Litynski (far left) celebrates with her teammates after winning the women's fencing ACC tournament on February 25, 2018. The match ended in the first three-way tie in ACC history and led to officials having to create the overtime rules on the spot. Each team would select one "champion" in each of the three forms of fencing to duel in one bout each. Best two out of three total bouts wins. No. 1 Notre Dame received a first round bye and played North Carolina after they defeated Duke. Litynski scored the winning touch in the last point of the last bout in sabre against Notre Dame to claim the title.

On Saturday July 21, 2018 there was a local parade held in North Minneapolis to celebrate the Rondo neighborhood. In the 1930s, Rondo Avenue was at the heart of Saint Paul, MN’s largest Black neighborhood. After the construction of I-94 in the 1960's the neighborhood was broken up and segregated by race. Each year people come together to celebrate the memory of the once legendary neighborhood. Hundreds of families lined the street to watch local community groups, politicians, dance groups and law enforcement greet them, perform and hand out freebies.
