Uprising in Uptown
On September 20, 2016 police officers shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott, an unarmed black man, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The city was outraged as this occurred in the wake of intense scrutiny of police using excessive force towards black people with no valid reason of doing so. Only a year earlier, riots dominated Ferguson, Missouri after a similar incident. Charlotte was filled with unrest as protests essentially shut down the city and interstate, at times. The protesting lasted multiple nights with the tension and violence in the first two nights prompting the National Guard to be called in. *WARNING*: There are obscene gestures in some of the photos in this gallery.
